CARD WEAVING
Candace Crockett
This weaving technique allows you to weave without a loom. It involves simple tools; card weaving cards. and yarn. A set of 25 cards is included with the video. All you need is some yarn. This video teaches the basic techniques of card weaving, how to measure the warp, thread the cards, set up and weave patterned bands and how to stitch bands together to form larger fabrics. Once the pattern (included) is determined & the cards are threaded, the weaving goes very quickly. This course involves two projects. The first project is a cotton band which can be used as a belt, neck piece or strap. The second project using wool, involves a completely different warping and weaving process and produces numerous patterns which will be woven in four bands which can be stitched together to form a handsome tote bag or purse. 97 minutes $34.95
COLOR INTERACTION FOR HANDWEAVERS
Donna Sullivan
This video offers a systematic approach for applying color principles to hand-woven structures, from warp-faced to weft-faced and in between. Woven examples illustrate the range of color interactions in weaving. Yarn sequences, needle weavings, & hand-woven samplers are suggested as initial opportunities to study color effects ranging from blending to vibration. You will learn how to successfully use color. and how the color interaction is affected by your choice of fiber and weave structure. size, distance and lighting. Your hand-woven pieces will be even more spectacular and successful once you understand these principles. A valuable guide for all handweavers. 40 minutes $19.95
DOUBLEWEAVE
Clotilde Barrett
If you have a small loom, you'll love the flexibility that this technique gives you to weave a wider width cloth. If width isn't a concern. you will find many challenges in weaving a double layer of cloth, making one side one color or pattern. and the other side a different color. You will weave a beautiful sampler which incorporates just about all the four harness techniques which are based on the double-weave principle. The sampler will remain an excellent reference for later study. The techniques include weaving two separate layers, folded cloth, tubes, slits, color-and-weave effects, pique, stitching, quilting and double-weave pick up patterning. 95 minutes $34.95
WARPING AND LOOM PREPARATION
Sallie Guy
Successful warping is just a video away! This comprehensive video includes warping from back to front with a paddle, using a raddle. Weavers can measure warps easily using anywhere from 4 to 20 ends at a time with a stationary warping paddle. The motion is rhythmical; crosses are made quickly, and all warp ends remain untwisted. When combined with a back to front beaming this method is ideal for multi-color warps and all types of yarn (course, textured, fine, or delicate). Also includes all aspects of loom preparation including reading weaving drafts, plus threading, treading and tie-up as they relate to jack, countermarch and counterbalance looms. 88 minutes 29.95
HAND-WOVEN FABRIC-Structure and Pattern
Madelyn van der Hoogt
Let Madelyn assist you, as she answers your questions about weave structure and pattern as she classifies and clarifies the difference. Graphed drawdowns, cross sections, and woven samples illustrate the descriptions. A pocket dictionary is included which features a "Family Tree" of Weaves. A great way to really understand what you are weaving. You might think of This as a course in the Theory of Weaving. WEAVING FOUR SELVEDGE TEXTILES
(on our floor looms)
Martha Stanley
In 1977 rug weaver Martha Stanley adapted the indigenous process of weaving four-selvedge textiles so they could be woven on our floor looms. The method described in this lecture. utilizes a continuous figure-8 warp to create a textile with four selvedges similar to that of a Navajo rug. While slower than working on a cut warp, it is substantially quicker Than the indigenous methods of This hemisphere since the sheds are loom-controlled clear up to the end of the warp. Martha works on a large loom making the process very clear & easily adaptable to any type of floor loom. No more fringes or hems when you use this process on your rugs!!81 minutes $39.95
